The Northern Ohio HIMSS AI Center of Excellence continues to expand its regional network of healthcare, technology, education, and community leaders working to advance the responsible use of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Since its formation, the AI Center of Excellence has grown to more than 170 participants from organizations throughout Northeast Ohio. Members contribute a wide range of experience in healthcare delivery, technology, data management, governance, education, patient engagement, and organizational leadership.
The initiative is led by Co-Chairs John Paganini, President of Paguar Informatics, and Jennifer Owens. Together, they have focused on creating a collaborative environment where participants can share knowledge, explore emerging AI applications, and address the practical and ethical considerations surrounding adoption.
“The strength of the AI Center of Excellence comes from the experience and commitment of its members,” Paganini said. “By bringing different perspectives together, we can help organizations move beyond conversations about AI and toward responsible, practical applications that improve healthcare.”
The AI Center of Excellence has established several specialized subcommittees focused on Governance Framework, Advocacy, Data Management, AI Health Literacy, and Human-Centered Design. These groups provide opportunities for members to develop resources, exchange expertise, and contribute to regional programs.
One of the organization’s most significant community initiatives is an AI Health Literacy Training Program designed to help 300 residents in Cleveland’s local neighborhoods use artificial intelligence confidently, safely, and responsibly when seeking health information.
The AI Center of Excellence hosts monthly educational meetings featuring regional and national experts, emerging technologies, applied use cases, and discussions about responsible AI implementation.
Through continued collaboration, education, and community engagement, the Northern Ohio HIMSS AI Center of Excellence is helping position Northeast Ohio as a center for responsible healthcare AI innovation.
